September song is what I like to think of as a hidden classic. September Song was originally composed by Kurt Weill; Maxwell Anderson; Walter Huston; Victor Young and his Orchestra.
When working on this song Weill intended for it to only be sung by Walter Huston in the musical Knickerbocker Holiday. The first audience who were fortunate enough to hear September Song, live and in theater, must have been humming the lyrics and spreading the tune. Over 300 covers of this song have been made since it was first heard in 1938.
Now don’t get me wrong the song is fantastic but if this song wasn’t linked to the musical Knickerbocker holiday who knows, it could have just been lost in history.
Hello! My name is Rachael Navarrete and I am an elementary education major with a minor in writing arts at Rowan University. Before transferring to Rowan I obtained my associates degree from Camden County College. I currently live in Glassboro right off campus with three other roommates and our puppy Havana. Music has always been something that seemed to follow me. As a child I loved dancing around my house singing and to anything on the radio. Today I still find myself running around my room with my headphones in jamming out. I may not be the best single but that has never stopped me before.
