Exploring the history of the groove

Lost April – The King Cole Trio

You are listening to Lost April, performed by The King Cole Trio.  This recording appears as the B-side for the single “Nature Boy,” which became the 14th most popular song the year it came out, in 1948. It helped solidify, the singer, Nat King Cole’s, status as a popular musician.

Eight years later, in 1956, Nat King Cole, was given his own show on NBC: “The Nat ‘King’ Cole Show”. It initially aired for 15 minutes, featured other well known artists and was one of the first television programs to have an African American host. The show only had a brief run, ending a  year and a half later, due to the lack of a national sponsor. Nat King Cole responded to the shows end with the famous quote “I guess Madison Avenue is scared of the dark.”
