Exploring the history of the groove

“When You Wish Upon a Star” by Cliff Edwards

When You Wish Upon a Star”  was recorded by Cliff Edwards. Edwards was an American musician, singer, actor and voice actor. Eleven years later, he was the voice of Jiminy Cricket in Disney’s Pinocchio . When Edwards died in 1971, he was close to broke and alone after three divorces. Walt Disney Productions paid for his funeral expenses as a way to remember him. This song is about how dreams can come true. This song appears in the movie Pinocchio when Pinocchio himself was able to transform from a wooden doll to a real boy. Disney now uses this song to represent the feeling that guests may have when experiencing Disney parks or watching the intro of a Disney movie. This song was the first Disney song to win an Oscar for Best Song. In 2000, Edwards was named a Disney Legend.
