Exploring the history of the groove

Minnie the Moocher by Cab Calloway

“Minnie the Moocher” was a jazz song recorded by Cab Calloway and His Orchestra.  The Track is also famous for the 1932 cartoon by Fleischer Studios with the same name.  Fleischer Studios was founded originally as Inkwell Studios by brothers Max and Dave Fleischer in 1921. The Studio known for cartoons such as, Koko the Clown, Betty Boop, and Popeye the Sailor was once considered to be the premier producer of animated features in the early days of animation, well before Walt Disney.  However, while the studio enjoyed their success the brothers came to arguments regarding creative differences leading to company being bought by Paramount.  With the rise of Disney later on, Fleshier Studios is often left forgotten. While it is unfortunate that the brothers never resolved their differences, the things they created live on in the hearts of the many who enjoy watching their films.  It’s because of tracks like “Minnie the Moocher” that we fondly remember the old days of animation and everything that Fleischer brothers did that changed not only how animation is done, but also how one’s creative mind can change the world.
