Edith Piaf was a mysterious, but powerful artist for her time. After enduring many tragedies throughout her lifetime, it is no wonder her pain is easily heard in her music.
After nearly not having her career take off due to the loss of her promoter and lover, the loss of her daughter, and surviving World War II, Piaf still managed to see the beauty in the world, in which she created La Vie en Rose. Translating to the “life through rose colored glasses” Piaf creates a warm melody that paints a beautiful picture for listeners to lift their spirits after the grueling war.
Through tragedy, Piaf’s lyrics wrap the listeners into a warm blanket to open their eyes in a new light. While hesitant to release the song, it sold more than a million copies, has been recorded by several artists, the source of two movies, and may just be arguably one of the most popular songs.
