Exploring the history of the groove

“I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus” by Jimmy Boyd

Jimmy Boyd was an American Musician who is best known for his song, I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus which he wrote when he was only 13 years old, back in 1952.

Boyd signed a recording contract with Columbia Records shortly after appearing on The Frank Sinatra Show.

Boyd was presented with two gold records. Shortly after, according to Los Angeles Times, the Catholic Church criticized this song for implying a link between sex and the religious holiday, causing several radio stations in markets to ban it. The ban was lifted after 13 year old Jimmy Boyd discussed with church leaders the actual meaning to his song.

Boyd’s career began to fade in the late 60’s and he was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 70. Boyd died of cancer on March 7, 2009.

As amazing as it is, I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Clausis still a hit every year around Christmas time and continues to sell.
