“Heigh-Ho” The Dwarf Chorus

The song you are listening to is “Heigh-Ho” written by Frank Churchill and Larry Morey. It is a song from Walt Disney’s animated film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1937. In the film, the song is sung by the group of seven dwarfs as they work at a mine with diamonds and rubies however, it is being performed by The Dwarf Chorus.

The melodic theme for “Heigh-Ho” might have been inspired by Robert Schumman’s piano piece “The Happy Farmer, Returning From Work” in 1848. The expression “Heigh-Ho” was first recorded in 1533 and being defined as an expression of “yawning, sighing, languor, weariness, disappointment.” However, the phrase “hey-ho” originated from Oxford English Dictionary means “to mark the rhythm of movement in heaving or hauling.”
